Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative

An act of compassion, blood donation supports medical procedures, improves health of those in need and saves lives bringing hope and joy to the families seeing their loved ones recover and get back to routine. It fosters a sense of community. In an effort to contribute this cause Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative (APCCI) organised a blood donation camp recently to mark our Independence Day. Building on the success of last year’s drive, the second blood donation drive saw more than 100 team members along with their families took part and donated their blood. The initiative was conducted in association with ‘Jan Kalyan Blood Centre’ Malhar Karwande, COO APCCI and Sathya Natarajan Lead Volunteer APCCI were amongst the team members who donated their blood and kicked off the drive. All team members expressed satisfaction that their participation could save lives of those in need.      

  जागतिक स्तरावर रक्तदान हे आरोग्यसेवेसाठी एक मजबूत आधारस्तंभ आहे. आपण केलेल्या रक्तदानामुळे कोणाचे तरी प्राण वाचले आहेत ही भावनाच समाधान देऊन जाते. रक्तदानाच्या महान कृत्यामुळे वैद्यकीय प्रक्रियांना मदत होते आणि लोकांचे जीव वाचविण्याबरोबरच हजारो कुटुंबियांना त्यांचे प्रियजन बरे होत असलेले पाहताना आनंद मिळतो  .   रक्तदानाच्या या महान कार्यात योगदान देण्यासाठी अदर पूनावाला क्लीन सिटी इनिशिएटिव्ह (एपीसीसीआय) तर्फे स्वातंत्र्य दिनानिमित्त नुकतेच रक्तदान शिबिराचे आयोजन करण्यात आले होते. गेल्या वर्षी मिळालेल्या उत्तम प्रतिसादानंतर आयोजित करण्यात आलेल्या दुसऱ्या रक्तदान मोहिमेत १०० हून अधिक स्वच्छतादूत व टीम सदस्यांनी भाग घेतला आणि रक्तदान केले. 'जनकल्याण रक्तकेंद्र,पुणे' च्या सहकार्याने हा उपक्रम राबविण्यात आला. एपीसीसीआयचे मुख्य कामकाज अधिकारी मल्हार करवंदे आणि लीड व्हॉलेंटिअर सत्या नटराजन यांचा देखील रक्तदान केलेल्या टीम सदस्यांमध्ये सहभाग होता. सर्व सहभागींनी या उपक्रमाबद्दल समाधान व्यक्त केले.

कडाक्याच्या उन्हाळ्यापासून दिलासा देत पावसाळा वातावरणात गारवा पसरवतो. पावसाळ्यातील वातावरण निसर्गाच्या विविध रंगांनी भरलेले,आल्हाददायक आणि उत्साही असते.  मात्र पावसाळा यासोबतच कचऱ्याबाबतची अनेक आव्हाने देखील घेऊन येतो. विशेषतः शहरी भागात रस्त्यावर टाकलेला कचरा आणि त्या कचऱ्याचे प्रमाण हे स्वच्छता दूतांसाठी एक मोठे आव्हान असते. रस्त्यावर टाकलेला कचरा जर उचलला गेला नाही तर तो पावसाच्या पाण्यासोबत नाले आणि सखोल भागात वाहून जातो आणि तिथे अडथळे निर्माण करतो.ओला कचरा लवकर सडत असल्याने दुर्गंधी, डासांची पैदास तसेच पाणी साचणे अशा गंभीर समस्या निर्माण होतात. प्लास्टिक कचरा देखील ड्रेनेज मध्ये अडथळे निर्माण करत या समस्येत अधिक भर पडते. यामुळेच जगभरातील शहरी रस्त्यांवर आणि आसपासच्या परिसरात पाणी साठणे हे एक नेहमीचेच  दृश्य बनत चालले आहे.   याबद्दल आपण काय करू शकतो? १. कचऱ्याची विल्हेवाट - कचरा व्यवस्थापनात महानगरपालिकेची प्रमुख भूमिका असली, तरी वैयक्तिक पातळीवर योगदान दिल्यास खऱ्या अर्थाने बदल घडू शकतो. कचरा वर्गीकरणामुळे केवळ पावसाळ्यातच नव्हे तर वर्षभरातील बहुतेक समस्...

Monsoon brings much relief from increasingly unbearable summer heat, but it also brings along a lot of challenges for handling of waste. Especially in urban areas, where littering and the sheer volume of waste generated is a big challenge for waste warriors. The littered waste, if not picked up, gets carried away by rainwater into drains and low-lying areas causing blockages. Wet waste poses a serious problem as it decomposes faster leading to foul smell and mosquito breeding along with the clogged water.
