Resolution for a Cleaner City: Waste Management begins at Home

A new year brings fresh beginnings, a new hope and resolve to do something good. It is a powerful opportunity to build a cleaner, healthier city starting right at home. By making simple, consistent changes to how we manage waste, every household can contribute to a greener future. Some simple steps can go a long way in contributing to a cleaner city. Begin with waste segregation.   Proper waste management starts by separating waste where it is created. Keep two or three bins at home—one for wet waste like food leftovers, one for dry waste such as paper, plastic, metal, and glass, and another for harmful items like batteries and e-waste. *Pack health hazardous waste like diapers, sanitary pads, bandages, e tc separately and put a red mark on it.* This helps recycling work better and reduces the burden on landfills and  processing plants.  Reduce waste before recycling .  Creating less waste is better than recycling more. Use reusable bags and water bott...

2025- A year of Young Changemakers Leading Pune’s Cleanliness Movement

One of the most inspiring highlights of this year has been the increasing involvement of young volunteers stepping up and taking responsibility for their city. These initiatives include cleaning public spaces, riverbanks, areas around heritage sites, post-marathon clean-ups, and restoring cleanliness after major festivals. As we reflect on 2025, it stands out as a particularly special year, marked by meaningful participation and growing public awareness. A Visible Shift in Public Awareness This year witnessed a substantial increase in both the number of cleanliness drives and the volunteers who joined them. This growth clearly reflects a positive shift in citizens’ mindsets. People are no longer passive users of public spaces—they now want to actively con...

Recycling- the biggest resource to fight Climate Change ‘Global Recycling Day’ – 18 March 24

The’ Global Recycling Day ’ is celebrated every year on 18 March. This year the theme is ‘ Recycling Heroes ’ which means celebrating people and their initiatives which are promoting recycling.    Our mother earth is shedding out natural resources faster than ever before and the day may not be far away when we might run out of these resources. Water, minerals, oil, coal, gas, metals and others are primary resources under threat, Rapid economic progress and urbanization leading to increased consumption is adding to this challenge which has grown to humongous proportions. Whatever is consumed if thrown away is adding to the mountains of waste.  The current state of dumping and accumulating waste is not helping anybody. It is affecting natural habitats, animals and human activities and livelihood. The temperatures are increasing, icecaps are melting faster than we ever thought, forest fires are becoming a new reality and weathers are getting more extreme. Our ...

Waste Bins For Maintaining Clean And Sustainable Cities

Image
Waste Management is a critical aspect of maintaining clean and sustainable cities. One of the key components of an effective waste management system is the presence of strategically placed waste bins throughout urban areas. These waste bins play a crucial role in ensuring that waste is properly disposed of, reducing littering and promoting a cleaner environment. The importance of waste bins in cities cannot be overstated. They serve as convenient and accessible points for residents and visitors to dispose of their trash responsibly. By providing designated spaces for garbage disposal, waste bins help prevent litter from accumulating on streets, sidewalks and public spaces. Furthermore, waste bins contribute to the overall cleanliness and hygiene of cities. They help prevent the spread of diseases by containing potentially hazardous materials and preventing them from contaminating the surrounding environment. Properly placed waste bins also discourage illegal dumping or improper di...
