Pune is one of the fastest growing cities in India. On one hand the city’s rapid growth is b ringing greater opportunities, but on the other hand  it also places increasing pressure on waste management systems and public spaces. Keeping our surroundings clean is therefore not just about aesthetics—it is essential to building a healthier, more sustainable and liveable Pune. This makes community-led clean-up efforts an increasingly important part of the city’s journey towards responsible waste management. On World Cleanup Day 2026 ( 20 September 2026 ) , Pune offers a powerful example of how citizen participation can become a force for change. Waste management is becoming a challenging issue in most of the urban areas across the world.
