"Creating an Outdoor Oasis: Beautifying Your Chronic Waste Space"

As much as we all want our environment to be free of litter, there are still areas prone to chronic waste spots. These areas are often characterized by heaps of trash and debris, and they can diminish the aesthetic value of a place as well as negatively impact public health and safety. But with a little effort, we can all contribute to beautifying these chronic waste spots and make them a pleasant site for everyone.   One of the first things to consider when beautifying a chronic waste spot is to assess the scope of the clean-up. This will help us determine the resources and strategies that we need to employ to tackle the problem effectively. It is essential to coordinate with local authorities, waste collectors and other relevant stakeholders to ensure doorstep waste collection to the nearby citizens, solve the waste collection related issues. Monitor the location for few days so that now garbage is thrown by passerby at the spot. Another crucial consideration is th...

‘Freedom’ from Litter with a ‘SWAG’

More than 100+ NGO,communities and volunteer groups teamed up for multiple drives on weekend leading upto Independence Day. The Initiative was a part of a mega drive conducted by ‘Swachh Pune Swachh  Bharat’s Don Taas , Ek Swach Pune Prayas’ , an initiative started by Wing Commander Puneet Sharma. Every piece of litter you pick up counts!

As the World embarks on a challenging journey towards Net Zero, waste management and citizens engagement is of paramount importance. And in waste management apart from the macro level issues, one of the mounting issues is the litter we see on the roads and public places. Most of the times we are ignorant and tolerate litter and trash around us as if it doesn’t make a difference. But the fact is that, one small step of picking up a plastic bottle, a chit of paper, a discarded household material or product and putting it into a bin will make a huge difference. Our culture emphasizes keeping our surroundings clean, our text books teach us ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’. Despite this we see people carelessly throwing litter especially in public places, others are bystanders as if it is not our responsibility. If we remain ignorant of the growing litter, it will add up to the already overburdened landfills, deface our public places, beaches, tourism sites, and add to the already c...

Let’s Keep Our Roads Leading To Outskirts Clean

Pune is blessed with surrounding hills, beautiful hill stations, forts and lakes . Nature has been truly kind to us with great climate and beautiful spaces in and around Pune. While there is a lot of awareness on keeping these places clean, we often forget the beautiful roads leading to these places. These are the roads which lead us to these beautiful places and give us memories of life. In past few years, rapid industrial growth has resulted in the city growing in population as well as size. The townships and residences are not restricted to the city itself, but there is a lot of development happening in the fringe areas, outskirts and even around Pune. No doubt, development brings prosperity but it also brings with it a lot of challenges. And one of the major challenges is waste management. These very roads leading to outskirts  which were once like a beautiful necklace decorating the city, are now witnessing dumping of litter on a large scale . A lot of people tr...

Man & Machine - A Super Job

Keeping the city clean is not a piece of cake. A lot of hard work and consistency is needed to keep the environment clean. Having the help of various machines to do this is a cherry on the cake. Machines save our time, they make cleaning efficient and ease up the job a little.   Machines are a great help to man but they can’t be used until the men are skilled. Machines like the Glutton Vacuum Litter Picker , Trilo, Hyva, Tipper help to keep the city clean with smooth handling by their operators. They even help with transportation and storage of the waste collected. Water ATMs providing free water, pothole repairing machines , street sweepers are all great examples of man & machines working together. Using these machines helps to clean many kilometres of areas and help the people in need, which would be impossible with using only manpower.   Eliminating chronic spots, managing the waste, making the city green is all done by man & machines together, making it a super j...

Eliminating Chronic Spots Can Significantly Contribute To A Cleaner City

Garbage chronic spots  (also called Garbage Vulnerable Points - GVP) are always a stark reminder of how much more work we all have to do when it comes to keeping our city clean. What is a Chronic Spot? We often come across some places in the city where we see garbage piled up. Even if the municipal vehicles collect garbage from these spots, these heaps of garbage again begin to reappear. Generally, a corner of any road, any empty public space or unguarded empty private space, side margins of roads become an ideal place for chronic spots.  These are spots where it becomes a habit for people to dispose off the waste, dry and wet. The heaps keep on piling up damaging the aesthetics of the area and also posing a lot of health risks for the local population there. How to identify a Chronic Spot ? If the waste generated by the locals is thrown in the open at a particular spot where it accumulates and keeps on piling up even after frequent cleaning, then it is called a Chroni...
