Good waste management helps reduce pollution, conserve natural resources, and create cleaner, healthier communities. The first step towards a sustainable future begins at home, where small everyday habits can make a big difference. As individuals, we can take simple yet meaningful actions. Segregate waste into wet, dry, and hazardous categories for proper disposal and recycling. Compost kitchen waste to reduce landfill waste and create natural manure for plants. A team of over 1400 volunteers, NGOs and Gram panchayats, Nagar Parishads teamed up to collect dry waste over a period of five days from 9th July  to 13th July 202 6. The cleanliness drive was a part of ‘My Wari, Swach Wari’ movement initiated by ‘Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative’(APCCI) to help clean Palkhi route covering a total 140 km of roads from Pune city till Saswad and Yawat. This is the tenth year of the initiative. Pune is home to several citizen-led initiatives that are creating meaningful change at the grassroots level. Among them is MyPrakriti , a young and dynamic environmental community founded by students and early-career professionals who dedicate their Sundays to making the city cleaner and greener. Started in November by a small group of eight friends, MyPrakriti was born from the belief that environmental awareness must be accompanied by on-ground action. While the founders initially focused on spreading awareness through digital content, they soon realised the need for direct community engagement. Volunteering organisations have made the most of summers with back-to-back weekend cleanliness drives, turning early mornings into purposeful community action. Groups across Pune have been actively engaging citizens. This year APCCI participated in initiatives led by organisations like MyPrakriti , BPT Seva , Together India , and CleanUp India . Summer in Pune is often seen as a time to slow down with vacations, but it can also be the most powerful season to give back. For Ojhas Pathak, Founder of Ecoforce, the journey began with a deep passion for conserving biodiversity on hills. However, he soon realised that true conservation is impossible without addressing the growing problem of waste. The constant littering on natural landscapes became a pressing concern—one that demanded action, not just intent. In December 2024, he embarked on an independent research journey. Over the next thirteen months, he explored not just environmental concerns, but also the economics and psychology behind waste management.
