Summers- the best time for volunteering activities
Volunteering organisations have made the most of summers with back-to-back weekend cleanliness drives, turning early mornings into purposeful community action. Groups across Pune have been actively engaging citizens. This year APCCI participated in initiatives led by organisations like MyPrakriti, BPT Seva, Together India, and CleanUp India.
Summer in Pune is often seen as a time to slow down with vacations, but it can also be the most powerful season to give back. With clear skies, it’s the perfect opportunity to step outdoors and contribute to cleanliness drives across the city—from the scenic trails of Vetal Tekdi, Taljai Tekdi and Baner Hills to the banks of the Mula-Mutha River, and even the streets in our own neighbourhood.
Youngsters, in particular, are embracing this movement—choosing to spend their weekend mornings cleaning hills, riverbanks, and public spaces instead of staying indoors. What begins as a simple act of picking up waste gradually becomes a larger mission of inspiring communities. It’s not just about removing litter; it’s about changing mindsets.
Summer offers the ideal conditions for such drives. Dry weather makes waste collection easier and helps prepare the city before the monsoon arrives, preventing clogged drains and pollution overflow. From popular green zones like Vetal Tekdi to the stretches along the Mula-Mutha River, volunteers are making visible differences.
More importantly, these efforts encourage simple, everyday habits—like not littering and using bins responsibly. Cleanliness is not a one-day activity but a shared responsibility. And through these summer drives, Pune is steadily building a culture where citizens don’t just clean their city, but actively care for it.
If you want to volunteer…..
Start simple—find a local NGO or citizen group working on waste management or environmental conservation. Many organizations in Pune regularly host clean-up drives and awareness campaigns. Even a couple of hours a week can create visible change.
Beyond cleaner surroundings, volunteering builds civic responsibility, connects you with like-minded citizens, and fosters pride in your city. Clean spaces are not just about aesthetics—they improve health, biodiversity, and overall quality of life.
