Youth can become changemakers with ‘Climate Troopers’
What are Climate Troopers?
The basic concept is of responsible volunteering.
Lot of people are driven towards community outreach programs, they are there on
the field contributing, but at some point of time we have to map the
outcome of their efforts. Climate Troopers is an army of volunteers who have
the faith that climate crisis can be handled if people are willing to take some
meaningful steps in that direction. The guiding principle is Learn,
Share and Act. Climate Troopers have been engaged in these
activities on these principles for last two years and they have not only
created impact which is visible but also solutions which can work in a longer
run.
Example of Climate Trooper activities
1. Waste Negative Events - Whenever we go to community or public places or go for
picnics or treks, we not only bring back material which we have consumed but
also what others have littered.
2. Identifying concept areas where we can work
together – Whether it is natural rejuvenation of
lakes, rivers, water bodies or starting with simple rain water harvesting in
the society or campuses, setting / creating butterfly habitat
Once the sense of responsibility is imbibed, it
will create the same synergy in others and will promote group thinking. Looking
for sustainable solutions which can also create employment opportunities can
result in impactful initiatives. This can convert students into change makers
who are self-driven and make this world a better place for environment and
people.
