Rewind 2023: A Climate Of Change

The year 2023 marked a period of continued activity and significance for APCCI. In addition to the fundamental waste collection efforts, volunteers and team members engaged in various activities to enhance citizen participation. The quarter spanning October to December 2023 was emblematic of this focused endeavour. Notable highlights included participation in 'Swachhta Pakhwada,' involvement in diverse activities of the 'Indian Swachhta League,' the facilitation of volunteers and NGOs on a unified platform, celebration of E-waste day, engagement in the NDA marathon and Neerathon, along with sustained involvement in volunteering activities.

Reflecting on the broader scope of 2023, it held special importance for Pune as the city hosted G20 meetings and conferences. APCCI played an active role in maintaining the cleanliness of roads, collaborating closely with local bodies. Citizen engagement and weekend volunteering remained on track, with the targets for weekend volunteering achieved by June. Active participation in various environmental awareness campaigns on calendar days continued to be a significant aspect of our advocacy efforts. 'My Wari Swachh Wari' remained a major volunteering activity, uniting volunteers, NGOs, and Gram Panchayats to clean the Palkhi route from Pune city to Saswad and Yawat. APCCI actively participated in mega events, encompassing cleanliness drives, Independence Day initiatives, river cleaning endeavors, marathons, etc., with a central focus on ensuring the sustainability of these activities from a cleanliness perspective.

Initiatives such as the Water-ATM in the fringe areas of East Pune, E-waste collection, and pothole filling saw increased momentum with growing involvement from the local community.

As Pune undergoes rapid development, the volume of waste generated has witnessed a significant surge. APCCI responded by expanding its fleet of vehicles, enhancing coverage, and increasing operational efficiency to bolster cleanliness efforts. The increased participation from volunteers further fueled the expansion of these activities.

Adding another accolade, the Villoo Poonawalla Foundation was honored with the CSR Impact Award for its Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative at the SMX CSR Leadership Summit & Awards held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

As the curtain falls on 2023, it is crucial to reflect on some of the key highlights and activities, offering insights for analysis and future planning. The forthcoming year aligns with the vision of APCCI, emphasizing increased citizen engagement to transform Pune into a more livable city. Heartfelt appreciation goes to every team member, volunteer, local body, administration, and NGO for their collaboration and contributions to 'Swachh Bharat.' Although the journey to fully mitigate the effects of climate change is long, the growing participation from citizens signals a climate for change! With enthusiasm, excitement, optimism, and anticipation, we eagerly look forward to the New Year.
