Our everyday actions at home can can play a crucial role in preserving river ecosystems
Lack of people connect is the root cause of almost all the major issues related
to river opined Shailaja Deshpande, founder director of Jeevitnadi - Living
River Foundation . Safeguarding river ecology is possible if we all get
together and contribute through our own individual actions.
Shailaja Deshpande was at the Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative (APCCI)
office to interact with the waste warriors and young volunteers as a part of
'Clean City Talks'.
The session was the fifth session in the series which aims to explore different aspects of leadership and what we all can learn to make our city better and more liveable.
Mr.Krishnan Komandur, CEO APCCI, Mr. Malhar Karwande, COO APCCI and Mr.Sathya
Natarajan, Lead Volunteer APCCI were present on the occasion. Young volunteers
from ‘Vartul' and marathon organisation 'Fit Cover 360' were also felicitated
on the occasion for their contribution to volunteering activities.
‘Jeevitnadi’ was started in 2014, by a group of individuals from diverse
professional fields who were passionate about environment conservation and
their main focus was on changing the perception of people about the
rivers and bringing back the lost connection particularly in the urban areas.
The organisation has been striving to work for revival of rivers in Pune
through various awareness and on ground activities.
Shailaja Deshpande said that while we all blame the industry and other stakeholders, we as individuals can also make a significant impact by being conscious about what we consume and volunteer in our own way towards cleanliness. By being conscious we can remove all the toxic substances that have become a part of our lifestyle, thereby contributing to the cleanliness of the rivers.
