Refurbished E-Waste Can Be A Valuable Educational Asset

It was a proud moment for young Vaibhav whose referral benefitted students with refurbished computers at a special function organized to mark International E-Waste Day recently. In an effort to improve the educational resources for the aspiring and meritorious students from economically weaker background, 15 refurbished computers were donated by Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative (APCCI) in association with Poornam Ecovision foundation to NGOs, organisations and children of waste warriors including Vanwasi Kalyan Ashram ( Ghodegaon Pune Dist), Navbharat Kanya Niwas Hostel ( Ahmednagar Dist) etc.

The students were excited to receive their computers which would give them access more educational tools. These students want to become CAs, IAS, IPS officers, Engineers and saw a new ray of hope with their hands on these computers. They were happy to receive their computers which would give them access to more educational tools.

Vaibhav is one of the real examples of how access to educational resources can help youngsters perceive their passion. He has received a laptop from an APCCI official and used it to benefit his career. Coming from a humble background, today he is an IT professional with a leading MNC. As someone who understands the importance and value of educational assets first hand, he wants to help more students. He even expressed willingness to come and counsel students on career paths and access to resources.

Empowering our youth is Nation Building and everybody can join in like Vaibhav and contribute to the future of our country. All one has to do is to donate the e-waste through right channels so that the e-waste does not end up in landfills and refurbished e-waste can be used to benefit many needy students.

In Pune APCCI and   Poornam EcoVision Foundation has partnered with the Pune Municipal Corporation for door to door e- waste collection in many parts of the city. As a part of this endeavor e-vehicles have been deployed by APCCI while the system for scheduling a pick up, e-waste segregation for recycling or re-use is being facilitated by Poornam EcoVision foundation.  Citizens need to call the helpline 7522999155. The representative will call, take information like name, address, e-waste to be discarded and will share the date and time as per the schedule of the e-vehicle. Alternatively QR code has been displayed at various locations and on the collection vehicles, through which the citizens fill up a form to give details. The e-vehicle will pick up the e-waste according to the scheduled time and date. The e-waste collected is sent to an authorized recycler.
